14-BIT AND 16-BIT ADCs FROM MAXIM FEATURE AN I2C-COMPATIBLE SERIAL INTERFACE
Note to Editor: The MAX1069 and the MAX1169 are the world's first 14-bit and 16-bit SAR ADC's featuring an I2C-compatible 2-wire serial interface.
SUNNYVALE, CA-November 21, 2002-Maxim Integrated Products (NASDAQ: MXIM) introduces the MAX1069/MAX1169, 58.6ksps, 14-bit and 16-bit ADCs with an I2C-compatible interface. These parts combine an internal track/hold 4.096V voltage reference and conversion clock in a 14-pin TSSOP package. They operate with a single 5V supply and an internal or external reference. Their small size, low-power operation, excellent dynamic performance, and ease of use make them well-suited for battery-powered and portable applications.
While the MAX1069 and MAX1169 consume only 1.16mA at a sample rate of 58.6ksps, adaptive power consumption reduces the supply current to 0.42mA at 10ksps and under 46µA at slower sampling rates. These ADCs feature a separate digital supply pin, where digital supply can range from 2.5V to 5.25V. The internal 4.096V reference or an external reference in the 1V to 5V range determines the full-scale analog input range.
The I2C-compatible interface supports interface speeds up to 1.7MHz including industry-standard speeds of 100kHz and 400kHz. User-programmable I2C addresses allow up to 16 devices on one I2C bus. The MAX1069 (14 bit) and MAX1169 (16 bit) are available in pin-compatible 14-pin TSSOP packages, offering an easy design upgrade path from 14 bit to 16 bit. Both parts are available in the commercial (0°C to +70°C) and extended (-40°C to +85°C) temperature range. Prices start at $7.45 (1000-up, FOB USA).
