DUAL 8-BIT 40/60/100Msps ADC DELIVERS INDUSTRY-LEADING DYNAMIC PERFORMANCE AT LOW POWER
SUNNYVALE, CA-May 17, 2002-Maxim Integrated Products introduces three dual 8-bit analog-to-digital converters (ADCs): the MAX1195 (40Msps), MAX1197 (60Msps), and MAX1198 (100Msps). These ADCs expand Maxim's high-speed ADC product line, joining the high-speed, low-power
10-bit ADCs (MAX1444-MAX1449, MAX1180-MAX1186) and 12-bit ADCs (MAX1420/MAX1421/MAX1422). These new ADCs target applications where low power, wide bandwidth, good linearity, and high-dynamic performance are required, such as high-speed I/Q digitization, multichannel IF undersampling, imaging, and instrumentation.
The MAX119x family of products offers outstanding 8-bit dynamic performance (SINAD = 46.5dB) at very high input frequencies (200MHz+) while consuming low power (87mW). The MAX1195 offers an SNR of 48.6dB and an SFDR of 68.7dBc at an input frequency of 20MHz and a sampling frequency of 40Msps while consuming only 87mW. The MAX1197 offers an SNR of 48.6dB and an SFDR of 69dBc at an input frequency of 30MHz and a sampling frequency of 60Msps while consuming only 120mW. The MAX1198 offers an SNR of 48.3dB and an SFDR of 66dBc at an input frequency of 50MHz and a sampling frequency of 100Msps while consuming a nominal 264mW.
Each of these parts can be operated from a 2.7V to 3.6V analog supply. For maximum interface flexibility, a separate digital supply pin allows output operation from 1.7V to 3.6V. The parts feature a pin-selectable, three-state output data format, which can be set to either straight offset binary or two's complement. Additionally, there are two power-down modes on all the parts which reduce the power consumption to typically less than 10mW in sleep mode and 1µW in shutdown mode.
The MAX119x family features a ±1V differential input range and an innovative differential pipelined architecture. Both single-ended and differential input configurations are supported. An integrated, fully differential input T/H amplifier minimizes the requirement for external components while providing high-dynamic performance and a full-power bandwidth of greater than 400MHz. The parts provide an on-chip precision 2.048V bandgap reference that can be overdriven with an external reference voltage. This allows a flexible input range and automatically ensures the correct DC-bias level for AC-coupled applications.
These new dual 8-bit products are pin compatible with Maxim's dual 10-bit products (MAX1180-MAX1183). The 8- and 10-bit products are designed to be interchangeable with no required board changes. The MAX1196* offers multiplexed parallel outputs which reduce the output bus interface. The MAX1196 is pin compatible with the MAX1186 (dual 10-bit muxed output ADC).
The MAX119x family comes in a space-saving 48-pin TQFP package specified for the industrial temperature range (-40°C to +85°C). Pricing for the MAX1195 starts at $3.74 (10,000-up, FOB USA). An evaluation kit is available for purchase.
