cdmaOne/cdma2000 CELLPHONE LNA/MIXERS SUPPORT GPS

SUNNYVALE, CA-December 4, 2001-Maxim Integrated Products introduces the MAX2385/MAX2386 miniature cellphone LNA/downconverters. They are designed for cdmaOne and cdma2000 cellular phones that also incorporate GPS functionality. The devices support operation in Japanese, as well as Chinese and U.S. cellular bands. The MAX2385/MAX2386 devices feature ultra-low current consumption and very small size. They also allow frequency plans that eliminate the need for a separate GPS VCO. Low-cost UCSP packaging enables small implementation size and low cost.

The MAX2385/MAX2386 contain a CDMA downconverter part, consisting of a multiple gain stage, high-linearity LNA, and a low-noise downconverter. They also contain a GPS path including LNA and mixer, a frequency generation block, and an LO buffer to drive the transmit upconverter. Average current consumption is only 5mA in CDMA mode and 9mA in GPS mode (MAX2385). The MAX2386 has a 15mA GPS mode with more gain and linearity. The combined noise figure is 2.5dB in CDMA mode and 2.0dB in GPS mode. The device enables CDMA operation in both the Japanese 832MHz to 870MHz band, as well as the U.S. and Chinese 869MHz to 894MHz band. It supports all common IF frequencies from 70MHz to 200MHz. Separate mixer outputs allow the use of different IF filters for CDMA and GPS. To save components, the outputs can easily be connected together to share one filter for both GPS and CDMA.

The MAX2385/MAX2386 come in a new 2mm x 2.7mm UCSP package that is fully qualified for direct printed circuit board mount. Prices start at $2.08 (1000-up, FOB USA).
