LOW-POWER 3V, 2.5Gbps 16:1 LVPECL SERIALIZER WITH CLOCK SYNTHESIS

SUNNYVALE, CA-May 29, 2001-Maxim Integrated Products introduces the MAX3891 +3.3V, 2.5Gbps, SDH/SONET 16:1 serializer with clock synthesis and single-ended LVPECL inputs. The MAX3891 serializer is ideal for converting 16-bit-wide, 155Mbps parallel data to 2.5Gbps serial data in SDH/SONET applications. The MAX3891 expands the parallel interface options of Maxim’s existing LVDS transceiver chipset by offering a single-ended PECL parallel interface. It forms a complete four-chip, 3V, 2.5Gbps transceiver solution when used with the MAX3869 laser driver, the MAX3866 TIA and limiting amplifier, and the MAX3881 1:16 deserializer with clock recovery.

Operating from a single +3.3V supply, the MAX3891 accepts 155Mbps single-ended LVPECL parallel data inputs and delivers differential PECL serial data and clock outputs while consuming only 495mW of power. A fully integrated PLL synthesizes an internal 2.5GHz serial clock from a 155.52MHz, 77.76MHz, 51.84MHz, or 38.88MHz reference clock. This 2.5Gbps serial clock retimes the output data stream. Maximum jitter generation performance (3psRMS) provides 1psRMS margin relative to the ITU/Bellcore SDH/SONET specification. A loopback data output is provided to facilitate system diagnostic testing.

Available in a 64-pin TQFP-EP (exposed pad) package in the extended temperature range (-40°C to +85°C), the MAX3891 is priced at $34.95 (1000-up, suggested resale, FOB USA). An evaluation kit is available.
