SUNNYVALE, CA-August 13, 1999-Maxim Integrated Products introduces the MAX3832 +3.3V, 2.5Gbps SDH/SONET four-channel interconnect mux/demux with clock generator. The MAX3832 is a 4:1 multiplexer and 1:4 demultiplexer that allows 2.5Gbps data to be sent over a pair of wires or fibers connecting telecommunications equipment. High-speed rack-to-rack shelf-to-shelf and card-to-card interconnections between equipment can now be made using a single pair of fibers, thereby saving space, power, and money. Applications include SDH/SONET backplanes, dense digital cross-connects, and intra-rack/subrack interconnects. The MAX3832, combined with the MAX3876 2.5Gbps clock and data recovery IC, form an ideal high-speed interconnect solution.
Operating from a single +3.3V supply, the MAX3832 consumes only 1.6W of power. The MAX3832 has excellent jitter performance: random jitter of 2.5psRMS and deterministic jitter of 11ps. The MAX3832 has a parallel 622Mbps SDH/SONET LVDS interface, and the 2.488Gbps serial CML data streams interface to an optical or electrical driver. A 10-bit-wide elastic buffer accommodates up to ±7.5ns skew between any parallel data input and the 155.52MHz external reference clock. An internal frame detector with TTL loss-of-frame monitor looks for a 622Mbps SDH/SONET framing pattern and rolls the demultiplexer to maintain proper channel assignment at the outputs. The MAX3832 provides a 155MHz LVDS clock output. An on-chip pattern generator provides high-speed built-in self-testing (BIST), and system-loopback and line-loopback modes furnish system test flexibility.
Available in a 64-pin TQFP exposed-paddle package over the upper-commercial (0°C to +85°C) temperature range, the MAX3832 is priced from $29.95 (1000-up, factory direct, FOB USA). Evaluation kits are available.
