256-TAP DIGITAL POTENTIOMETERS OFFER THE ULTIMATE SPACE SAVINGS IN 8-PIN SOT23
SUNNYVALE, CA-December 13, 2000-Maxim Integrated Products introduces the MAX5400/MAX5401/MAX5402 256-tap digital potentiometers for applications requiring accurate adjustments. The MAX5400 and MAX5401 serial SOT-PoTs come in ultra-small 8-pin SOT23 (3mm x 3mm) packages that are 50% smaller than comparable devices in SOIC packages, with 50k and 100k resistance options. This family also includes the MAX5402, a 10k µPoT that is offered in an 8-pin µMAX. These tiny devices are excellent alternatives for trim potentiometers, eliminating the need for mechanical adjustments and adding digital programmability to new designs. Other useful applications for the MAX5400 family include programmable gain amplifiers and VCO control.
The MAX5400/MAX5401/MAX5402 use only 0.1µA of supply current, suitable for battery-powered applications. A low 50ppm/°C resistor temperature coefficient and 5ppm/°C ratiometric temperature coefficient make the MAX5400/MAX5401/MAX5402 useful in low temperature coefficient adjustable gain and circuit configurations. The power-up reset sets the wiper to midscale (position 128) when power is first applied. Make-before-break contacts allow glitchless switching between resistor taps.
The MAX5400/MAX5401/MAX5402 use the SPI compatible 3-wire interface to serially load data. Prices for the MAX5400/MAX5401/MAX5402 start at $0.95 (1000up, FOB USA).
