LOW-POWER 3V, 10Gbps 1:16 DEMULTIPLEXER

SUNNYVALE, CA—November 7, 2000—Maxim Integrated Products introduces the MAX3950, a +3.3V, 10Gbps SDH/SONET 1:16 deserializer with LVDS outputs. The expansion of Maxim’s wide product line into high-performance OC-192 applications is possible with Maxim’s second-generation, in-house SiGe process technology. The MAX3950 is designed to convert 10Gbps serial data to 16-bit-wide, 622Mbps parallel data. Its small footprint, only 10mm x10mm, and its ability to handle FEC data rates (up to 10.7Gbps) make the MAX3950 ideal for a variety of applications within SDH/SONET and DWDM transmission systems.

The MAX3950 implements a shift-register-based demultiplexer to convert 9.953Gbps CML serial clock and data inputs to 16-bit-wide, 622.08Mbps LVDS parallel clock and data outputs compatible with the OIF parallel interface standard. The device requires only 270mA from a single +3.3V supply—low power consumption of just 890mW. The internally terminated 50-ohm CML inputs are capable of receiving serial rates up to 10.7Gbps.

The MAX3950 is available in a 68-lead QFN package and operates from a +3.3V supply over a temperature range of -40°C to +85°C. The MAX3950 is priced from $120 (1000-up, factory direct, FOB USA). Evaluation kits are available.
