LOW-COST, LOW-POWER DAC FAMILY FITS IN SOT23

SUNNYVALE, CA—August 21, 2000—Maxim Integrated Product announces the MAX5363/MAX5364/MAX5365 and MAX5383/MAX5384/MAX5385, a family of ultra-low-power 6-bit and 8-bit voltage-output digital-to-analog converters (DACs) in miniature 6-pin SOT23 packages. These DACs with a simple 3-wire interface operate from a single +2.7V to +5.5V supply, offer rail-to-rail precision internal amplifiers, and consume ultra-low supply current (130µA typically). A 1µA shutdown current further reduces power. The devices’ small size and low power consumption optimize them for portable and battery-powered equipment.

Included on-chip are a current-steering DAC, a class AB buffer amplifier capable of driving resistive and capacitive loads, an internal bandgap reference (MAX5363/MAX5364 and MAX5383/MAX5384), and a proprietary deglitch circuit that eliminates power-up glitches at the DAC output. The power-on reset circuit ensures the devices power up to 0V and remain there until a valid write takes place. With their reference derived from the power supply inputs, the MAX5363 and MAX5385 give the widest dynamic output range (0 to supply). The MAX5363/MAX5364 and MAX5383/MAX5384, on the other hand, provide supply-independent output levels and high PSRR specifications without an external reference. Maximum linearity performance is specified at ±1LSB for all the devices.

Available in a 6-pin SOT23 package, the devices’ simple 3-wire serial interface operates at clock rates up to 10MHz. Prices start at $0.95 for MAX5383/MAX5384/MAX5385 and $0.65 for MAX5363/MAX5364/MAX5365 (1000-up, FOB USA).
