INDUSTRY'S FIRST 3.5GHz SiGe LNA PROVIDES HIGH LINEARITY PERFORMANCE AND FLEXIBLE APPLICATION

 
 

Notes to editor: The MAX2645 SiGe LNA is the first LNA designed specifically for 3.4GHz to 3.8GHz WLL applications. It provides the highest linearity (IP3) performance and the most features compared to amplifiers from Agilent or Stanford Microdevices.
SUNNYVALE, CA—August 4, 2000—Maxim Integrated Products introduces the MAX2645, the industry’s first low-noise amplifier optimized for 3.4GHz to 3.8GHz wireless local loop, wireless broadband access, and digital microwave radio applications. Manufactured in Maxim’s advanced high-frequency SiGe process, the MAX2645 features low noise figure, high gain, adjustable third order intercept point (IP3), and a logic controlled gain step function. These features make it ideal for use as a first and second stage LNA in the receiver, a PA predriver in the transmitter, or an LO buffer amp.

The MAX2645 provides a typical performance of 14.4dB gain, 2.3dB noise figure, and +4dBm input IP3, all for just 9.2mA of supply current. The gain step feature reduces the LNA gain by 24dB while increasing the input IP3 to +13dBm. This improves the receiver front-end performance under high input signal level conditions. Supply current is reduced to only 3mA in this mode. The IP3 performance is also adjustable via an off-chip bias resistor, allowing the user to set the required IP3 for a specific application of the amplifier. For example, when used as a PA predriver, the amplifier input IP3 can be adjusted to +11.5dBm (or +26dBm output IP3) for 13mA.

The MAX2645 operates over a supply range of +3V to +5.5V. A logic controlled shutdown mode reduces supply current to <1µA. The device is offered in a miniature 10-pin µMAX package with an exposed paddle. Prices start from $1.25 (1,000-up, FOB USA). A fully assembled evaluation kit (MAX2645EVKIT) is available to help reduce design time.
