Ruggedized Plastic Parts

Maxim offers ruggedized plastic-packaged ICs for stressful, high-reliability mil/aero applications where moisture resistance is not an issue.

A "ruggedized" product is one that has been burned-in and tested to military specifications. Usually, ruggedized products are packaged in hermetic packages. However, some mil/aero applications do not require the expense of a full hermetic seal, but do require high-reliability processing. For such applications, Maxim's ruggedized military plastic products fulfill this processing requirement and can be thought of as "super-COTS" products. All of Maxim's ruggedized plastic parts ship with a Certificate of Compliance, just as do the full military spec hermetic devices.

Features Specific to Maxim Ruggedized Plastic Parts by Product Grade

Maxim offers three grades of ruggedized plastic products to meet mil/aero customer needs, with unique features for each grade.
/PR
This grade provides full burn-in and temperature testing.
  • 100% burn-in at +135°C for 120 hours
    • Virtually eliminates all infant mortality issues
  • 100% tri-temp tested over the military temperature range
    • Assures the highest possible reliability in a plastic-packaged device
    • Effectively guarantees that the actual device received by the customer has been proven to operate at the full military temperature range
/PR2
This grade is appropriate for customers who do their own board or system-level burn-in.
  • No burn-in
  • 100% tri-temp tested over the military temperature range
    • Assures the highest possible reliability in a plastic-packaged device
    • Effectively guarantees that the actual device received by the customer has been proven to operate at the full military temperature range
/PR3
This grade is appropriate for customers who do their own system-level burn-in and tri-temp testing.
  • No burn-in or tri-temp testing
  • Devices are tested to more stringent limits to guarantee performance over temperature
